Bram van der Meer is an investigative psychologist who currently heads his own consultation and training service in The Hague, The Netherlands. He is educated as a criminologist and psychologist, holding degrees from the University of Pretoria (South Africa) and Leiden University (The Netherlands).
Bram started his career as a clinical psychologist on the Intensive Care Unit of a forensic psychiatric hospital, responsible for the clinical evaluation and risk management of severely dangerous offenders. Bram also served as an appointed expert witness for Dutch courts between 2001 and 2013, advising judges on recidivism risk and criminal responsibility. For 11 years he worked with the Offender Profiling and Threat Management Unit of the Netherlands National Police Agency. His work focused on violent and serial offences – developing offender profiles, providing suspect interrogation advice, threat assessments and case management strategies. His threat assessment experience includes consultations to the Dutch Royal Family and involvement in establishing the national threat management centre. Bram established his private practice in 2011. For law enforcement agencies in different countries he continues to provide expertise in criminal investigations.
His consultation to public figures and corporations includes case management on threats and stalking, problematic behaviour in the workplace, false claim examinations and psychological evaluation of applicants filling sensitive positions. Bram teaches at Leiden University (The Netherlands), the Netherlands Police Academy and the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management (Germany).
He is a published author whose contributions include a chapter in the International Handbook of Threat Assessment (Oxford University Press, 2013). Bram is affiliate member of the International Criminal Investigative Analysis Fellowship (ICIAF), was the President of the Association of European Threat Assessment Professionals (AETAP) from 2010-2014 and now serves as a member of the executive board.
